About two decades after a brutal home invasion rape, the long arm of the law has finally caught up to "The Bad Breath Rapist," a moniker earned because of his distinctive halitosis. Tuen Lee, also known as the perpetrator behind the 2005 rape of his co-worker in Quincy, was nabbed on Wednesday in a joint law enforcement operation. According to a report from Massachusetts State Police News, Lee eluded capture by fleeing the state following his trial at Norfolk Superior, where he was found guilty on all charges.
The Massachusetts State Police News recounted that the Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, along with Quincy PD detectives, invested hundreds of man-hours trying to track down Lee. Their break came earlier this year when they uncovered an address in Diablo, California. Lee had been hiding under the roof of a million-dollar estate owned by a woman who operated a local flower shop and who, unwittingly, shared her home with a fugitive for 15 years.
After sifting through social media and conducting open-source intelligence work, investigators were led to believe that images posted online depicted Tuen Lee. On the eve of May 28, 2024, a coordinated force comprised of the VFAS Metro, the US Marshals Service Boston, and the local Quincy PD converged with the Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force of Northern California. Together, they kept eyes on the upscale Diablo property, awaiting for Lee to make his move.
As reported by Massachusetts State Police News, when Lee and a female companion departed the residence the following day, law enforcement conducted a vehicle stop. The Danville Police handled the arrest, during which Lee first tried to bluff his way out with a false identity but ended up confessing his real name. His fingerprints confirmed he was the man they'd been hunting for nearly 19 years. In a twisted revelation, his companion was apparently in the dark about his vile past and true identity.
Lee is now in custody at Danville PD, awaiting extradition back to Massachusetts, where he will finally face the consequences of his actions.
