In a haunting scene at Gwinnett County's Lucky Shoals Park, an early morning patrol ended in the discovery of four bodies in a parked car. Authorities have identified the deceased as 56-year-old Jose Plasencia and three children, Arianny Rodriguez, 13, Chadal Rodriguez, 11, and Carlos Rodriguez, 9, as reported by FOX5 Atlanta. The Gwinnett County Police, suspecting a murder-suicide, found the man and children shot to death with the man in the driver's seat.
The grisly discovery was made around 1 a.m. on Wednesday by an officer performing routine checks. Noting the car’s unusual placement on a pedestrian walkway, the officer approached after calls to the vehicle went unanswered. "Recognizing that this is quite unusual to have a vehicle on a pedestrian trail, especially during the middle of the night ... the officer called out to the occupants of the vehicle and got no response," said police spokesperson Sgt. Michele Pihera in a statement obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The mother of the children was not involved in the incident, she was at the hospital with their sibling receiving treatment for an unrelated injury.
Initially, there was speculation that Plasencia, the man found at the scene, was the father of the murdered children. However, police later clarified that while the mother and Plasencia shared a child who was at the hospital, Plasencia was not the father of the children killed. According to FOX5 Atlanta, the mother had consented for Plasencia to take her other children out for a meal.
Detectives remained on the scene into the morning hours focusing their investigation on a silver Honda sedan. "At this time, detectives are investigating this case as a possible murder-suicide, but (a) final determination will be made by the medical examiner’s office," Pihera conveyed to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. While the exact motivations behind the tragic incident remain unclear, Gwinnett County Police continue their investigation, urging anyone with information to come forward.
