A Trenton man's joyride turned deadly this past Saturday when his motorcycle was sideswiped by a suspected drunk driver on I-75 in Erie Township, resulting in fatal injuries that claimed his life. According to WWJ Newsradio, the victim was identified as 49-year-old Christopher Taylor, who had been riding his black 2023 Harley Davidson Street Glide when the accident occurred near Bay Creek Road around 9:30 P.M.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office reported that an intoxicated 55-year-old Toledo man, behind the wheel of a white 2005 Chevy Malibu, was speeding in the northbound right lane before he merged into the center, striking the motorcycle Taylor was driving, sending it hurtling into the median concrete barrier and then resting on the inside shoulder of the freeway. Meanwhile, Taylor was thrown from his bike, ending up against the barrier wall. ClickOnDetroit notes that despite being equipped with a helmet, Taylor's injuries were severe, leading to his death after being rushed to ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital.
The suspect, whose name has been withheld until formal arraignment, was taken into custody and is currently being held at the Monroe County Jail on suspicion of operating while intoxicated causing death. The Sheriff’s office confirmed the driver was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, and no injuries were sustained on his part. The crash investigation is being led by Lieutenant Brian Quinn and Deputy Sheriffs Alec Preadmore and Steven Warren of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office Traffic Services Division, as stated in an update from FOX 2 Detroit.
