The violent encounter took place near 36th and Yale Streets around 12:30 p.m., as confirmed by Phoenix Police. Responding officers found the men wounded, prompting an immediate rush to the hospital for both victims.
One of the injured men suffered life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition, while the second man's injuries were not considered life-threatening, FOX 10 Phoenix reported. The drivers, embroiled in the midday shootout, were not identified, and the details surrounding the altercation that led to the gunfire remain unclear.
"Detectives are on scene speaking with witnesses and trying to learn what led to this violent shooting," Sergeant Brian Bower told FOX 10 Phoenix. Authorities have shutdown the intersection to conduct an in-depth investigation and comb through any evidence that might unravel the events that transpired.
Meanwhile, the Phoenix Police Department has not indicated that they are searching for additional suspects. Found closed down for a police investigation, 36th Street at Yale bore the aftermath of the shootout, according to 12 News. The area has been cordoned off as detectives gather information, and the shooting incident, with no one outstanding, strains local resources.
