Kirkland police have arrested two juvenile suspects following a series of crimes, including attempted vehicle theft and burglary. The suspects, both 16-year-olds from Kirkland and Redmond, respectively, have been at the center of a crime wave that kept local law enforcement on their toes, culminating in a brazen act of delinquency outside the Kirkland Police Department itself.
According to official reports, the spree began on May 1 when both suspects attempted to forcefully make off with a vehicle on 3rd Street. After a brief foot pursuit, officers managed to apprehend the adolescents and book them on several charges, including attempted motor vehicle theft. The male suspect was also linked to a theft incident involving vape products from a Totem Lake business.
Following their release, the crime spree spiraled out, with the male suspect subsequently engaging in further illicit activity, including a gas station robbery, burglary of a cannabis shop, possession of stolen vehicles, and leading police officers on a dangerous chase, the Kirkland Police Department has confirmed.
Things came to a head on May 5 when the 16-year-old male suspect brazenly dared cops to chase him by driving circles in a stolen vehicle with the lights off around the Kirkland Police Department’s parking lot. Police were to swiftly engage in a pursuit, later utilizing a Pursuit Intervention Technique to halt the getaway car. Both individuals were apprehended after trying to flee on foot, and additional charges were promptly laid on them.
While both suspects were re-booked into King County Youth Center, the male was held in custody due to his extensive involvement in the spree, while the female was placed under electronic home monitoring. The Kirkland Police Department has also expressed gratitude towards the Redmond Police Department for their aid in these investigations.
