Gunfire erupted in Northwest Miami-Dade on Tuesday evening, leaving two men fighting for their lives at a trauma center, authorities said. The shooting took place around 7 p.m. near 25th Avenue and Northwest 56th Street, a neighborhood where the echo of gunshots is not unfamiliar to its residents.
Responding officers discovered the victims after a ShotSpotter detection system, which picks up the sound of gunfire, alerted them to the incident, NBC6 reported. Littering the crime scene were the remnants of the violence that had unfolded—casings, sirens, and the urgent work of first responders, although, police have not yet identified a motive.
Officials indicated both men were in critical condition when they were transported by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to JMH Ryder Trauma Center. Details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting remain unclear as police have not released information on what may have precipitated the bloodshed.
