The University of Texas at Austin and Texas Athletics are set to throw a massive, all-day bash to celebrate the Longhorns' official debut in the Southeastern Conference, taking place on June 30 from 1 to 10 p.m., as reported by UT News. The free-admission event will spread across campus, with the Main Mall fronting the UT Tower serving as the epicenter for the day's festivities, inviting all members of Longhorn Nation and the Central Texas community to join.
The highlight of this blowout is going to be the official SEC Ceremony at 8:30 p.m. Expect to see SEC bigwigs like Commissioner Greg Sankey and UT big shots, including President Jay Hartzell and Vice President and Athletics Director Chris Del Conte, who are slated to officially welcome the Longhorns into the SEC, followed swiftly by a fireworks spectacular. "This is a day we have been building towards for years," Del Conte said, according to UT News. Kicking off earlier, at 5:30 p.m., is a live music show, with a headliner set to go on stage at 9 p.m., though a name hasn't been dropped yet.
Festivities start at 2 p.m. with family-friendly interactive games and Texas Football game day experiences like a Ferris wheel and Longhorns inflatable games. Fans can also look forward to catching first glimpses of exclusive Texas x SEC co-branded merchandise up for grabs. A mix of beloved Texas traditions, such as Bevo XV, Texas Cheer, and Hook 'Em, will ensure there are plenty of memory-making moments throughout the day.
An impressive range of free activities will be on offer from 1 to 5 p.m., including access to the University's museums like the LBJ Presidential Library, Texas Science & Natural History Museum, and the Blanton Museum of Art. Further adding to the excitement, the SEC Network is set to broadcast live, giving fans a unique chance to deeply definitely immerse in the SEC experience. Food lovers and beer enthusiasts won't be disappointed either, with Austin's finest food trucks and beer stands ready to serve. "This event will be a chance to highlight the University's winning tradition and all it means to be a Longhorn," said Hartzell, in a statement to UT News.
Event organizers are signaling attendees to freely use designated UT parking garages and surface lots starting at 11 a.m. Fans are advised to come early, dress in their burnt orange best, and be a part of this historic celebration that promises to be memorable for every Longhorn in attendance.
