An Upson County man faces serious charges after being arrested for child sexual exploitation. John Howard Booker, 30, was charged with eight counts of Sexual Exploitation of Children on May 15, 2024. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) swung into action following a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
The GBI's Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes (CEACC) Unit kicked off an inquiry into the sordid activities allegedly carried out by Booker online, which culminated in a search warrant executed at his residence last year. This meticulously detailed investigation eventually led to arrest warrants that the accused surrendered to on the above date, according to the GBI.
Booker is now behind bars at the Upson County Jail awaiting further legal proceedings. The arrest is a part of a broader initiative by the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. This program, established by the U.S. Department of Justice, aims to combat the growing digital tide of child abuse material and the increasing risks posed by online predators. The task force is a vital component of the CEACC's efforts to protect children from exploitation.
GBI is continuing their work to uncover and discontinuing anyone participating in these hideous crimes, urging the public to report any suspicious activity related to child exploitation. Information can be relayed by contacting the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Child Exploitation Unit or the NCMEC CyberTipline. Anonymous tips can be submitted through various channels including calling 1-800-597-TIPS (8477), online at their website, or through the See Something, Send Something mobile app.
