The Waxahachie Police Department has announced enrollment for its Junior Police Academy, catering to children with an interest in law enforcement and community service. Aspiring young cadets will be schooled in teamwork, and physical health, and get a behind-the-scenes look into a day in the life of a police officer.
Waxahachie PD is set to swing open its doors for sign-ups this Saturday, May 18, and you'll need to be an early bird to snatch up a spot. The department noted that they're expecting slots to fill up quickly. Enrollment kicks off bright and early at 8:00 am and wraps up at 1:00 pm, or when classes hit capacity, whichever comes first. They are enrolling students directly at the precinct located at 630 Farley Street, according to the Waxahachie Police Department.
Through a Facebook post, the department divulged the academy dates: youngsters heading into 3rd and 4th grades will have their sessions from June 10 to 12. The following week, from June 17 to 20, and again from June 24 to 26, the program opens up for students moving up to 5th and 6th grades. The initiative is part of a broader effort to foster relations between law enforcement and the community, especially the younger generation.
For those needing further details or looking to secure their child's place at the academy, Officer Taylor is the go-to contact at the police department. Waxahachie PD encourages interested parties to reach out by dialing 469-309-4430.
