Capitol Weather Watch: D.C. Set for a Mixed Bag of Sun, Showers, and Thunderstorms
The nation's capital is bracing for a week of fluctuating weather patterns, according to the National Weather Service. Washingtonians can expect a mostly sunny day today with a pleasant high of 78 degrees, as reported by the National Weather Service. A north wind blowing at 8 to 13 mph will make for a breezy day, and gusts could reach as high as 21 mph. Partly cloudy skies will descend tonight, accompanied by a modest dip in temperature to around 58 degrees.
Friday's outlook appears to be veering towards the gloomy side, with a high near 74 under mostly cloudy skies. Light eastern winds will be present. However, the real tumult is forecasted for Friday night. The National Weather Service predicts a 60% chance of showers, with thunderstorms possibly interrupting the evening before 11 pm, then again after 2 am. Rainfall may vary, with some areas getting up to a quarter of an inch, especially where thunderstorms strike.
Entering the weekend, showers continue to play a central role. Saturday's weather is likely to be cloudy with a high of just 65 degrees, and thunderstorms are possible after 5 pm, so keep those umbrellas close. The National Weather Service informs us that the chance of precipitation is hovering around the 70% mark for Saturday night as well, with similar conditions expected. Sunday might offer a slight reprieve with only a 40% chance of showers and a hint of sunshine peeking through the mostly cloudy skies.
Moving into next week, D.C. residents can look forward to a more agreeable weather pattern. Monday promises partly sunny skies with a high near 72, followed by a mostly sunny Tuesday when temperatures could climb to 76. But, as we inch towards midweek, the possibility of showers resurfaces. Wednesday's forecast suggests a 30% chance of rain with a mix of sun and clouds, and a high approaching the 80s.
