West Palm Beach residents and community stakeholders, take note. The City of West Palm Beach Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) is calling for public input on the distribution of critical federal funds aimed at assisting the city’s most vulnerable populations. As part of the HCD Fiscal Year ’24 Annual Action Plan meeting, voices from across the city are being invited to weigh-in on how these funds will be allocated.
The funds, comprising of federal CDBG, HOME and HOPWA monies, are a lifeline meant to bolster housing availability, access to public services, combat homelessness, and improve public facilities and infrastructure for low-income, homeless, and special needs populations. In a move to democratize the decision-making process, the Housing and Community Development is making a pitch to the public to dictate where this financial aid should flow. Participation can be done in person or virtually, ensuring an inclusive approach to community engagement.
With the twin modes of attendance, citizens have the opportunity to influence the spending at the Eva W. Mack Community Hub located at 1540 N. Australian Ave, or they can log on to a virtual meeting through a provided Zoom link. The session is slated for the evening of June 11, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., opening a window for residents to lend their voice during the discussion.
Those unable to attend but wish to get more information or chime in on the action plan for funneling these federal resources can reach out to the City of West Palm Beach Housing and Community Development Department at (561) 822-1250, with TTY available at 800-955-8771. Story of community development and distribution of aid is unfolding, and citizens of West Palm Beach are invited to be architects of that narrative.
