Wilson County residents looking to hit the government offices or drop off their weekend party trash will have to pause their plans this Memorial Day weekend. Taking part in the national moment of remembrance, Wilson County Government offices will be shutting their doors on Monday, May 27, as confirmed by the county's official announcement. This includes the Wilson County Public Library, which will be doubly inaccessible, not opening its doors Sunday, May 26, nor on the actual holiday.
For those who were planning to clear out their garages or tidy up the yard, the Wilson County C&D Landfill won't be there to take in the refuse on Saturday, May 25, and Monday, May 27. But not all is lost, as residents looking to conveniently dispose of waste will still be able to access select county convenience center sites. Locations 2(Hwy 117), 5(Lucama), 7(Hwy 42 E), 10(Sims), and 12(Landfill Rd) are set to maintain operations on the holiday.
According to an announcement on the Wilson County website, local residents should take note that the holiday closures will extend beyond libraries and landfills to encompass sites 1(Elm City), 3(Saratoga), 4(Rock Ridge), 6(Gardners), 8(Stantonsburg), 9(New Hope), and 11(Hwy 581), all of which will be closed on Monday, May 27.
The county assures that normal service hours are to quickly resume on Tuesday, May 28, for those counting on government services or needing to get their post-holiday lives swiftly back on track. Wilson County also reminds its residents that, holiday or not, Public Safety & Emergency Services will not be breaking their stride—it will continue uninterrupted, always on its normal schedule, to ensure the community's safety and well-being.
