A woman was nabbed for armed robbery after trying to pilfer shampoo from a Family Dollar store on Main Street, Worcester police said. According to official reports, the incident occurred early yesterday morning when an employee spotted 30-year-old Monique Heard allegedly shoveling multiple shampoo bottles into her clothing.
The store worker confronted Heard as she exited the store, only to be met with the sight of a knife in her hand, causing him to retreat for his own safety, Heard was stopped shortly afterwards by a Worcester Police officer, she matched the description given by the store employee and immediately handed over the stolen goods upon being questioned.
When police took Heard into custody, they charged her with armed robbery. The Worcester Police Department detailed the confrontation and arrest on their website later that day, noting that no one was hurt during the chain of events.
The brazen daylight theft has left the community rattled, with concerns over the surge in such crimes; residents are calling for increased police presence. Heart's arrest comes amidst a concerning uptick in retail thefts, with police urging businesses to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
