A woman tragically met her end in a solo vehicle smash-up in Northeast Portland Wednesday morning when her car slammed into a utility pole, marking the city's 21st vehicular fatality this year. Cops from the North Precinct were dispatched to the crash site on the 3400 block of Northeast Columbia Boulevard at 9:05 a.m., where they discovered the lifeless body of the driver, identified only as an adult female, according to a statement by the Portland Police.
The thoroughfare, stained by the skirmish, was sealed off between Northeast 33rd Avenue and Northeast 47th Avenue for several hours while detectives from the Major Crash Team investigated the scene. Meanwhile, the local residents breathed a sigh of relief as utility services remained uninterrupted despite the calamitous event that unspooled without forewarning. If anyone has information about this crash, Portland Police has urged them to step forward and email [email protected], referencing case number 24-131890.
In their relentless commitment to curtail the climbing collision count, the Portland Police Traffic Division reminds the public of their undying campaign against the epidemic of traffic transgressions that snatch lives, stressing that their primary endeavor remains the crackdown on speed demons, booze cruisers, gadget gazers, and signal scofflaws who imperil the fragile ballet between pedestrians, bikers, and motorists, the police force notes that each crash reverberates through a network of kin and community.
The Portland Police's tally of traffic fatalities often outstrips those recorded by the NHTSA, which does not factor in incidents stemming from suicide, private property disputes, non-public roadways, vehicles outside motor classification, delayed departures upwards of a month post-crash, and medically induced accidents.
