Two males, one a juvenile, were nabbed by Worcester’s finest on Reservoir St, where they were allegedly toting illegal heat. In a nighttime bust on Tuesday, officers from the local Crime Gun Intelligence Unit, assisted by Gang Unit colleagues and two ATF agents, swooped in on the suspects following a previous shooting in the area.
The cops, hot on the heels of a recent ShotSpotter alert, spotted Christopher Vazquez, 19, and his unnamed 17-year-old companion who fit the bill perfectly for the shots-fired suspects. A seemingly nervous Vazquez, who had clutched his fanny pack upon spotting the patrol, spurred a search that would end up with him and his mate in cuffs. When Worcester Police palpated Vazquez's pack, they didn't have to look far to secure what they readily identified as a loaded gun. A similar fate was met by the teen, whose possession of another loaded firearm was swiftly determined.
Neither suspect had been green-lighted to carry a gun, leading to their arrest on a string of weapons charges. According to a statement published on the Worcester Police Department's website, Vazquez and the minor both face counts of carrying a loaded firearm without a license, among other charges.
This tight-lipped incident, including the identity of the juvenile, remains largely under wraps, as law enforcement continues to delve deeper into the case. But make no mistake, the recovery of the illegal firearms represents another win for local gunslingers in blue, always eager to rid their streets of unpermitted firearms and the violence they frequently bring in tow.
