An 18-year-old has been arrested and charged in the aftermath of a DeKalb County shooting that saw six men wounded on the night of May 30. The suspect, Jerone Wilson, is facing charges including five counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. FOX 5 Atlanta reports the shootout occurred in the 2300 block of Greenway Drive near Emerald Lake Drive.
Found by police at a home, between the ages of 18 and 49, were the wounded men, including the accused; all of which required hospitalization for a range of injuries from minor to serious. According to police, while the details surrounding Wilson's own injuries were not disclosed, he and the other victims were still hospitalized as of the latest update. DeKalb County authorities insist anyone with additional information to reach out to the Homicide Assault Unit.
As disclosed in a press conference mentioned by 11Alive, DeKalb County Police Lt. Shane Smith confirmed that the six injured individuals are all still alive, with injuries not believed to be life-threatening at this point. The violent altercation appears to stem from a conflict between two groups, located in the neighborhood which is not far from notable local landmarks including the Kroger on Wesley Chapel Road and Wesley Chapel Park.
One local resident, when hearing what he described to 11Alive as "30 to 40 gunshots rattle off," detailed his experience with a second round following a pause from the initial gunfire. His account captured a chaotic scene that culminated in “seven to nine ambulances” departing from the violence-ridden area. This incident, injecting disruption and harm into the community, had emergency teams quickly responding to the site, guiding the narrative of another night punctuated by gun violence.
