On the evening of June 19, 2024, officers from the Drug Control Unit of District E-18 (Hyde Park) and District B-3 (Mattapan) apprehended an 18-year-old Dorchester resident, Yozaxi Peguero, on charges related to firearm possession. The arrest, which took place at around 6:34 PM on Southern Avenue, was part of an ongoing investigation in the area.

According to the Boston Police Department's report, authorities observed Peguero along with a group of teenagers. One of the members, later identified as Peguero, appeared to mimic the action of firing a gun and was fixated on his messenger bag. As the group attempted to enter a building through the backyard, Peguero frantically entered through a basement door but was quickly pursued on foot by officers.

The pursuit led to a second-floor landing where officers struggled to restrain Peguero as he attempted to reach for his fanny pack. Ultimately, officers handcuffed him and retrieved a loaded Bryco Jennings firearm, with one round in the chamber and eleven in the magazine, which was later determined to be in his possession.

Following the incident, Peguero now faces multiple charges including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, and Breaking and Entering in the Daytime. He is set to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court, marking another youth ensnared in the perennial struggle against urban violent crime.
