This is a follow-through on the promise made to voters who approved bond funds way back in 2016, according to the City of Allen.
According to the plan, the library's overhaul comes after an early step to increase parking space taken in 2017. It's been a long road getting to this point, with the design phase put on ice until 2021 because of the unpredictable pandemic. But the city didn't solely rely on the bond funds; additional cash to the tune of $4.707 million from the city's Facilities Fund, non-bond fund, and a grant will also back the service boost.
As the bulldozers are poised to roll in June, the library plans to shift gears and temporarily relocate to the former Rountree Elementary School building. The community should brace for a change up through Summer 2025, but residents likely won't see the library's service falter during the transition.
