The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) has recognized the importance of empowering the youth and is doing so through the establishment of youth councils across the state, according to their official blog.
It isn't just a once-a-year head nod during National Adolescent Health Month, it's a continuous effort, that focuses on mental health, bullying, and a sleuth of other issues that impact the well-being of adolescents all year round. The objective is to give young leaders a voice to tackle issues that range from suicide prevention to social matters like healthy relationships and bullying prevention.
ADHS’s initiative enables them to chip in with state-level policy-making and contribute to the biennial Adolescent Health Conference; this was made clear in a post on the department’s blog. The youth councils offer a local approach to addressing pressing concerns, sharing social media messages to disseize crucial health-related updates.
In essence, by putting resources behind these youth initiatives, ADHS is banking on the notion that today's young Arizonians hold the creative spark and verve needed to spearhead change in their local neighborhoods, and at a broader state level. These councils aren't just whispering into the void, they're actively participating in their community's future by amplifying their voices on ADHS social media platforms, which last month, were ablaze with posts on the various youth projects unfolding across the state.
The investment in the youth of today, as per the sentiment echoed by ADHS, is an investment in tomorrow's leaders – ones who can approach societal hurdles with confidence and resolve.
