Get ready to paint the town colorful—it's showtime as the Atlanta Fringe Festival gears up for its 12th season with a smorgasbord of live performances set to transform various ATL neighborhoods into a vibrant stage for the arts from June 3 through June 9. This year, Little Five Points, East Atlanta Village, and Old Fourth Ward are set to come alive as performers and audiences come together in a weeklong revelry celebrating creativity and expression.
With a lineup that boasts not just local Georgia talent but also touring artistic troupes from across the country and even as far off as Taiwan, this festival, slated to utilize established and unusual venues like 7 Stages and Metropolitan Studios, is a hotbed for eclectic entertainment, it’s diverse array including theater, stand-up comedy, puppets—you name it, they've got it. "It's a chance for people who do really good work to try really weird work, and it's a chance for people who normally wouldn't get a chance to try a show to just try a show, because the option of failure is pretty low," Michael Butler, who’s known to dabble in everything from drag to puppetry, told Atlanta News First—his one-man extravaganza just one of the 28 groups set to perform.
The merriment kicks off with a unique spin on "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure," divided into five segments, promising a fascinating reinterpretation of the classic tale set to enthrall audiences right from the first curtain rise. More than just a cornucopia of performances, the Atlanta Fringe Festival enriches the community with Fringe Audio podcasting, Street Fringe offering free street-side spectacles, and Kids Fringe ensuring the little ones aren’t left out of the festive fun.
“A beautiful week of discovery” is how Diana Brown, the festival's executive director, described the upcoming festivities in an interview with FOX 5 Atlanta an interview that painted a picture of a city transformed by art and passion. And let's not forget, for those who want a more hands-on experience, there are volunteer opportunities offered for those who want to be behind the scenes of the magic, keep an eye on the festival's social media hubs, because ATL Fringe is not only an artistic extravaganza but also a celebration of community and collaboration.
