An Atlanta firefighter faces serious charges after a December crash that claimed the life of a newborn. According to Atlanta News First, Zachary Williams, the firefighter in question, is accused of driving under the influence on Humphries Hill Road, where his speeding vehicle allegedly collided with another, leading to catastrophic consequences.
As reported by FOX 5 Atlanta, the accident occurred at around 11 p.m. on December 30, 2023. Williams' vehicle, traveling at speed more than double the posted limit, reportedly crossed into an oncoming lane and struck a car carrying a pregnant woman, Eunice Osei Gyasi, who later gave birth at the hospital. Her infant, named Evangela, survived for only 28 minutes due to injuries linked to the crash. The subsequent months saw an investigation that culminated in charges being laid against Williams.
Details emerging from the crash depict a harrowing scene. Court documents state that Eunice Osei Gyasi, the mother of the child, was also injured in the incident. Williams, according to the same documents, had a blood alcohol content of .156—nearly twice the legal driving limit—more than three hours following the collision. "Zachary Scott Williams was taken into custody around noon June 3 and booked into the Cobb County Jail," as stated by FOX 5 Atlanta, "He was charged with homicide by vehicle in the first degree, reckless driving, speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, and failure to maintain lane." Williams is currently held on no bond, with his bond hearing scheduled for June 13.
