Austin is bracing for a week's scorcher, with high temperatures and soaring heat index values nudging the city to issue a heat advisory. The National Weather Service has forecasted a high near 97 degrees today with heat index values climbing as high as 111, according to the National Weather Service. The sultry mix of heat and humidity will feel oppressive, prompting the advisory which is in effect from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The weather this evening will offer little reprieve, with increasing clouds keeping the low around a balmy 79 degrees. Afternoon highs throughout the week will park in the low to mid-90s, but when factoring in humidity, Austinites should prepare for it to feel closer to triple digits. KXAN reports that heat index values are expected to reach between 105° to 112°. Along with the stifling heat, storms from north Texas could potentially affect the area, but their arrival and strength remain uncertain.
With a prolonged hot spell in store, local officials are urging caution and self-care. Recommendations include staying cool, and hydrated, and limiting outdoor activities to avoid heat-related illnesses. In the heat advisory, KXAN emphasizes the importance of frequent breaks indoors and staying well-hydrated, noting that "even simple yard work that would normally take an hour to complete could take twice as long."
Looking towards the weekend, the condition while sleeping at night, mostly clear skies will offer little cooling, with lows hovering around the mid-70s. Residents should anticipate more sunny days with highs pushing back up to the mid-90s and, by Sunday, possibly inching towards 98 degrees, as per the National Weather Service. Though Monday holds a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms, predominantly sunny skies are expected to prevail, maintaining the high heat streak.
