Barrow County's own Chris Yancey has been appointed to a key water planning council in Georgia. Gov. Brian Kemp announced that Yancey, the Public Works Director for Barrow County, will join the Upper Oconee Regional Water Planning Council, a move signaling the state's recognition of his extensive expertise in water management and public works administration.
Yancey's credentials in the field span over four decades, with Class 1 Georgia licenses in both water and wastewater treatment. Notably, his resume also features graduate certifications in Public Works Management from the University of Georgia. His role in Barrow County, as reported by Barrow County’s official announcement, covers strategic long-term planning, financial projections for projects, and capital improvements, along with the comprehensive management of the Public Works Department's day-to-day operations.
The Upper Oconee Regional Water Planning Council, to which Yancey has been named, is part of the state's initiative to promote sustainable water management. The council's work includes developing plans that ensure water quality and availability for the region's future—a task that seems well-suited to Yancey's established record in the public works sphere.
As the state looks forward to benefiting from Yancey's vast experience, his appointment serves as a nod to his accomplished career and dedication to public service in water management.
