A gunman walked into the Dollar Tree inside Campbellton Plaza in Southwest Atlanta, pulled a firearm on the store clerk, and walked out with more than $800 in cash from the register. Atlanta Police are now asking the public to help identify him after releasing surveillance video and images from the scene.
The robbery happened around 1:33 p.m. on Tuesday at the store located at 2020 Campbellton Road SW, according to CBS News. Police say the suspect stood behind the clerk, held the gun on the cashier, and demanded money before fleeing out the store door, according to WSB-TV. Investigators described the suspect as wearing a dark hoodie sweatshirt and athletic pants with white stripes, and they are hoping the released video and pictures will help someone come forward with his identity.
A Pattern of Violent Robberies Along Campbellton Road
This is not the first violent robbery to hit the Campbellton Road corridor this year. In June, a suspect bound a convenience store clerk's hands and feet on nearby Delowe Drive SW before stealing cash along with $6,200 in tablets and phones, a case Hoodline reported also prompted a Crime Stoppers appeal. The same stretch of Southwest Atlanta has seen other violent incidents this year, including gunfire on the 2100 block of Campbellton Road SW and a shooting on nearby Oakland Drive SW.
Dispatch logs also show the Dollar Tree at 2020 Campbellton Road SW was hit by a separate larceny report on August 4, just two weeks before the armed robbery, according to Citizen. The store is one of 28 Dollar Tree locations across Atlanta and serves as a low-cost shopping hub in Southwest Atlanta, offering EBT-accepted goods in an area with limited grocery options.
Citywide Robbery Numbers Are Climbing
The Campbellton Plaza robbery lands against a backdrop of rising commercial crime across Atlanta. Full-year 2025 data released by the Atlanta Police Department in January showed robberies citywide rose 26.7 percent to 651 incidents, up from 514 the year before, even as overall crime fell 7 percent and homicides dropped 30 percent, per SafeScore. Aggravated assaults climbed 16.8 percent to 3,085 incidents over the same period.
Historical analysis from the Atlanta Regional Commission's 33n research platform found that while the city's violent crime rate fell 58 percent between 2009 and 2025, robbery rates have fluctuated independently of homicide trends across individual neighborhoods, with Zone 4 among the areas showing distinct local variation from citywide averages.
Municipal Investment Meets Persistent Crime Concerns
The robbery site sits within Atlanta Police Zone 4, where the city broke ground on a new dedicated police precinct in late 2025 and opened a new emergency medical services station at 4532 Campbellton Road SW. The corridor is also covered by a dedicated Campbellton Road Tax Allocation District, which channels municipal tax funds toward commercial corridor improvements, safety enhancements, and redevelopment around Campbellton Plaza, according to SaportaReport.
Under Georgia Code § 16-8-41, armed robbery involving a firearm carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison without eligibility for parole, with a maximum of 20 years or life imprisonment, according to Justia Law. Georgia classifies armed robbery as a serious violent felony requiring non-probationable prison time, meaning the suspect faces significant legal exposure if identified and convicted.
How to Help Identify the Suspect
Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the suspect's arrest and indictment. The organization receives roughly 50 tips per day across 168 participating Georgia law enforcement agencies, according to 11Alive, and tipsters are assigned unique numbers and passwords so they can claim rewards while remaining anonymous.
Anyone with information can submit tips through the P3 Tips app, at stopcrimeatl.org, or by calling the Crime Stoppers tip line at 404-577-8477. Investigators say all tips can remain anonymous as they work to put a name to the man seen in the released surveillance footage.
