As summer temperatures soar, Mesa residents don't have to break the bank to stay cool and entertained. The Mesa Public Library offers a plethora of free activities that go beyond just borrowing books. A recent release from the library, dated June 26th, outlines numerous opportunities for community members to indulge in creative ventures, pick up new skills, and enjoy a wide array of entertainment options—all with just a library card.
Embracing creativity can be cost-free with the library's craft programs available for all ages. "From crafting to genealogy, there's something for everyone that doesn't need to cost a dime," highlighted the library's announcement. THINKspot, a makerspace housed at each full-service location, invites patrons to innovate with access to technology and tools. Meanwhile, families can broaden their knowledge with a visit to local museums, thanks to the Act One Culture Pass program that grants two free tickets to a selection of cultural hubs.
Streaming services are also at the fingertips of cardholders. According to the Mesa Public Library release, Mesa’s library network provides access to a breadth of online resources that includes concerts on Qello, documentaries on IndieFlix and educational shows on Kanopy. For those looking to branch out linguistically, Rocket Language offers lessons in languages such as Spanish, ASL, and others, while Pimsleur audiobooks feature teachings in Chinese, French, Spanish, and Arabic.
The Main Library has not forgotten its youngest visitors, offering specialized play kits that encourage imaginative play and learning for children. And for all ages, the library champions literacy through the Summer Reading program. "Earn points for reading and additional points for attending events, completing challenges," and, engaging with library staff for secret codes, Mesa Public Library's statement reads. Participants can win tangible rewards, which include tickets to Phoenix Mercury games and a pass for Arizona State Parks.
