The Bedford Police Department is returning its popular, no-charge summer basketball camp for the season. Open to incoming sixth-grade boys and girls from all HEB ISD elementary schools, the camp promises a week of skills, drills, and fun that only summer and sports can deliver. Starting June 24 until June 28, campers will hit the courts at The Bedford Center YMCA from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Shoot, pass, dribble, and rebound—future basketball stars will spend their days sharpening the fundamentals of the game, according to the Bedford Police Department.

Officer Spears is the go-to for parents looking to secure a spot for their kids. With safety in the backboard and team spirit in the net, campers will also learn the virtues of teamwork and defense—a slam dunk for developing athletic prowess and character. But parents, take note: you’ll need to pack a lunchbox, as midday meals aren't on the house. Reach out to Officer Spears at deidre.spears@bedford tx.gov or give a ring at 817-952-2427 to get in on the action before the whistle blows on the remaining spots.

Summer fun just got an adrenaline shot for the kids of Bedford, and it’s more than just a free-for-all on the court; it’s an investment in community relationships. There’s nothing but a net when law enforcement steps off the patrol path and onto the playground, engaging with the youth in a setting that’s less about badges and more about bounce passes. It’s a play for trust and a score for mutual respect, as the department finds common ground with families in their backcourt.
