The City of Boerne has snagged an award that places its revamped website on a pedestal among Texas municipalities. According to a statement by the City, the communications team came away with the Best Website Award of Honor from the Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers (TAMIO) at their annual gathering earlier this month.
The award, which recognizes the standout municipal websites regardless of the city size, highlights the significant efforts by the Boerne Communications Department, spearheaded by Digital Managing Editor Robert Taylor. It is important to mention, winning the award, the redesign was deemed to be "extremely thought out and intentional" by the judges, who also lauded the "seamless" look and feel of the site and its rebranding efforts that tied the elements together.
Boerne’s city website underwent a comprehensive audit in 2022, with updates to content that improved accuracy, access, and user convenience. This groundwork was pivotal for the complete launch of the redesigned site in May 2023, which took into account the importance of mobile accessibility, considering the 67% of 1.8 million website views that year were on handheld devices.
Chris Shadrock, Boerne's Communications Director, recognized the diligence involved in the project, having worked with every department to ensure accuracy and prioritize user experience. He was quoted expressing his pride: "I am very proud of the effort that was poured into this project." Digital Managing Editor Robert Taylor echoed the team's sentiments, ensuring the redesign and information was accurate and ensuring the resident's experience when visiting the site was always the top priority.
This year’s TAMIO conference, held in San Antonio, saw a record-breaking number of entries for the TAMI Awards with 688 submissions. TAMIO operates as a collective of communication professionals that serve to inform Texas citizens on municipal government matters, striving for transparency and public engagement in civic issues.
