Residents of North Austin are currently under a boil water notice following a substantial water line break that occurred on Friday. The break, as reported by KVUE, happened along West Wells Branch Parkway when a contractor struck a 24-inch line during a drilling operation. The incident unleashed gallons of water into the air and prompted the notice for several neighborhoods and apartment complexes, including Brookside, Milan Apartments, and The Morgan, among others.

While the damaged line was quickly repaired and the water supply restored by Saturday afternoon, not all has gone smoothly in the aftermath. Officials are requiring residents to continue to boil their water to ensure safety after a sample for bacteriological testing failed to pass. Authorities aim to possibly lift the notice by Tuesday after a new set of samples is collected and tested. In a KVUE interview, Shirley Ross, Wells Branch MUD District Manager, stated, "These things happen. We try to avoid them, obviously, as much as possible."

Moreover, during the commotion a big rig inadvertently drove into a sinkhole caused by the water line rupture, but thankfully no injuries were reported. The truck's driver, Ruben, narrated to KVUE how he was forced to swerve to avoid a collision before falling into the hole, saying, "And this other idiot, he came to cut me off. He was going to hit me. So, I had to get back to the right. And all of a sudden, I go into the sinkhole, it opens and cratered as I was passing through."

Residents impacted by the boil notice can expect to receive notifications when the restriction is lifted. Affected areas include various streets and addresses such as Gaylord Drive, Regents Walk, and others. Meanwhile, crews have worked swiftly to repair the break and are flushing the system before normal water service can resume. "Affected neighborhoods include Brookside them, Island Apartments and Wells Branch," highlights a report by local coverage.
