Yesterday afternoon, Boston's Drug Control Unit made a significant arrest in Roxbury, apprehending a man on firearm and drug charges. Arn Jones, a 46-year-old from Hyde Park, was detained after an ongoing drug probe led to the execution of a search warrant on a vehicle associated with him. Officers discovered an array of contraband, including drugs and ammunition, according to the Boston Police Department report.
Amidst their search, police discovered twelve grams of cocaine, jars and bags brimming with marijuana, a loaded Glock, and large capacity magazines, some known colloquially as 'banana clips.' Additionally, the law enforcement team retrieved a holster for the firearm, a holster for handcuffs, a sizable knife, two laser sights, and $275 in U.S currency. While conducting their investigation, officers were informed of Jones's intent to retrieve his seized vehicle from District B-2, only to be arrested upon his arrival. The officers meticulously documented their findings during the warrant and swiftly placed Jones in handcuffs.
The charges leveled against Jones are extensive: Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, multiple counts of Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, several counts of Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, as well as Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B and Class D substances. He will face these charges at his arraignment in Roxbury District Court.
The backstory to Jones's arrest emerged from a previous police engagement on June 22, 2024. Officers responded to community complaints of illicit drug activities near Gerard and Island Streets. They observed what appeared to be a drug deal involving a large group and two individuals in wheelchairs. According to the police report, as they intervened, a search of these individuals yielded crack cocaine, Fentanyl, marijuana intended for resale, and a small sum of money. Jones was implicated in this earlier incident, resulting in an initial set of drug charges and the seizure of the motor vehicle that later led to his re-arrest on additional charges.
