Boston's streets just got a little safer as authorities announced the arrest of 33-year-old Keon Baker, who was nabbed by the Youth Violence Strike Force on warrants for firearms charges. Baker, a resident of Boston, was a wanted man before officers took him into custody last Friday in Roxbury on firearms and ammunition charges, according to an official report by the Boston Police Department.
Law enforcement acted on a tip and cornered Baker at 3 Monadnock Street, and the subsequent search of the property yielded an arsenal, including three firearms and an assortment of ammunition, as reported by the Boston Police Department. The arrest stems from an earlier incident—a shot spotter activation that alerted officers to the presence of ballistic evidence at 725 Dudley Street the week before, although searches at the time turned up neither victims nor culprits.
City residents are cautiously optimistic, hoping this is a sign of a downward trend in neighborhood violence. However, the specter of gun-related crime remains ever-present in Roxbury, reminding everyone of the ongoing battle against illegal firearms in Boston. For now, Baker's arrest is a small victory for both the Boston PD and the residents of Roxbury. The Boston Police Department reported details of the suspect's arrest and the related investigation in a June 2nd communication.
