In the pre-dawn hours on a Friday in Dorchester, Boston Police officers swiftly apprehended two individuals on firearm-related charges. The official report from the Boston Police Department, indicates that the officers, part of the Anti-Crime Unit of District C-11, responded to reports of gunfire at 56 Richfield Street. Carlos Pires, 18, of Brockton, and Deandrew Pinto, 20, of Boston, now face multiple charges, including unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, as well as possessing a large capacity feeding device.
According to the official BPD news release, at around 3:39 AM, after the call was updated to shots fired, police were provided a description of a suspect. Arriving officers spotted an individual running in the direction of Bowdoin Street, and following a transient loss of sight, observed them again near Norton Street. A significant linguistical advantage was held by one of the officers who understood Cape Verdean-Creole and could decipher a suspicious conversation which eventually led them to find a firearm near the scene.
The situation became tense as a crowd seemingly tried to disrupt the arrest. Amidst this disturbance, officers noticed a second man attempting to discreetly move away. This suspect was found with a backpack concealing a second firearm behind a vehicle's wheel. Recovered from the scene were a loaded Glock 19 and a similarly prepared Black FN FNS-9; each weapon equipped with a fully loaded chamber and an ample supply of rounds in their respective magazines. The quick reaction by the Boston Police Anti-Crime Unit was critical in not only detaining the suspects but also in removing dangerous weapons from the neighborhood.
The arraignment for Pires and Pinto is set to take place at Dorchester District Court.
