Early this morning, a routine traffic stop by Roxbury officers led to the arrest of 38-year-old Ronnie Powell on multiple firearm charges. According to the Boston Police Department, Powell was known to them for past infractions, including armed robbery, and was driving on a suspended license.
At around 2:30 AM near Columbia Road in Dorchester, officers observed Powell failing to stop at a sign, prompting them to activate their emergency signals to properly conduct a traffic stop. Their encounter unfolded in the vicinity of 97 Bird Street, where officers discovered upon further inspection a loaded firearm in Powell's vehicle. The weapon identified as a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield, was carrying one round in the chamber and six in the magazine.
Powell's detainment led to several charges: Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawrrful Possession of Ammunition, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 2nd Offense, alongside Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and a firearm violation with three prior violent or drug crimes. These charges pile onto an already troubled history with law enforcement.
The Roxbury District Court is set to arrange Powell's hearing, where he will face the legal consequences of his actions. The continuation of such events serves to unfold a narrative rife with recurrences, involving individuals embroiled in a systemic cycle of crime and retribution.
