A somber investigation is underway in Brockton, Massachusetts, following a distressing incident where a 2-year-old boy drowned in an above-ground swimming pool on Saturday morning. The Plymouth District Attorney's Office confirmed the tragedy. It noted that Brockton Police received a distressing 911 call around 9:15 a.m., which reported the toddler’s unresponsive state in a pool located at 111 Ardsley Circle, as detailed in a report by NBC Boston.
Upon arrival, first responders and emergency personnel swiftly transported the child to Good Samaritan Hospital, however, the boy was pronounced dead, the protocol following such incidents unfolded as expected, and the firefighters were met with a harrowing scene—a family member providing CPR in a desperate attempt to save the young life; this intimate detail accentuating the profound tragedy encountered by the responders was recounted by Brockton Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Marchetti, who also told NBC Boston, "It's an unimaginable tragedy. Nobody wants to go to these calls."
The collaborative efforts of both Massachusetts State Police and local Brockton Police are dedicated to shedding light on the circumstances that led to the devastating loss, a joint interdepartmental approach echoed in the investigation details shared by WCVB.
7News WHDH noted the boy's name has not been disclosed amid ongoing investigations.
