After a case that has spanned several years, Riverside Sheriff's deputies have arrested a suspect in connection with the disappearance and murder of Zachary Hemminger, a once-missing person from Cabazon. Hemminger, 30, was reported missing in April 2021, but the case took an ominous turn as investigators gathered evidence pointing towards foul play. According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, their Central Homicide Unit took over the investigation before tragically discovering human remains in November 2023, which were later confirmed to be Hemminger's.
On June 21, following the amassing of sufficient evidence, authorities apprehended 47-year-old Shannon Collins, a resident of Cabazon. The suspect was taken into custody without incident on Lois Avenue, also within the bounds of Cabazon, as detailed by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office. Per the authorities, Collins has been booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center and now faces a murder charge. While other details surrounding the arrest have not been publicly available, the press describes the investigation as ongoing.
In a bid to uncover further information related to this case, the Riverside Sheriff’s Office is reaching out to the community for assistance. They urge anyone with pertinent details to come forward and contact Investigator D. Robertson or Investigator D. Hood at the Central Homicide Unit.
