Fans of Chicago sports, get ready to adjust your channel lineup. This October brings the roll-out of a new player on the sports broadcasting field: the Chicago Sports Network (CHSN), ready to become the new home for the Chicago Bulls, Blackhawks, and White Sox games, as reported by CBS Chicago. The first puck drop and tip-off on CHSN will be Blackhawks and Bulls preseason games, respectively. However, die-hard White Sox fans will have to hang tight till 2025 to see their team in action on the new platform.
The formation of CHSN is pegged as a strategic three-team offense, aiming to thoroughly innovate how fans engage with their favorite sports teams. Teaming up with Standard Media, the network promises to not only broadcast over 300 live games annually but also to deliver multisport programming around the clock. All of this, according to a news release mentioned by WTTW News, is within reach for viewers across most of Illinois, and parts of Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, and Wisconsin—approval from the leagues pending.
The sports trinity's move to their very own network means an end to its long-standing relationship with NBC Sports Chicago. Skeptics are keen to see whether CHSN can effectively fill the skates, sneakers, and cleats of its predecessor. Meanwhile, NBC Sports Chicago is set to focus on other local professional teams, coupled with its current coverage on NBC 5 Chicago and Telemundo Chicago. "We thank the White Sox, Bulls and Blackhawks for the long and collaborative partnership on NBC Sports Chicago," a statement from an NBC Sports Chicago spokesman exuded grace amidst the shift in broadcast dynamics.
Jason Coyle, crowned as the president of the soon-to-launch network, keyed in on the fan-centric philosophy driving its creation. "As we set out to design the network, we began and ended every discussion with the simple question: What is best for our fans?" Coyle asserted in a statement obtained by CBS Chicago. CHSN aspires to never, ever to solely stick to traditional broadcast means but rather branch out across various digital platforms, tapping into as many markets as their rights will allow.
The buzz about the immediate fate of NBC Sports Chicago and the staff within remains, as the riddle of their future lingered unanswered. As the countdown to October draws nearer, Chicago's sports fandom waits with bated breath to click over to their new broadcast home.
