A trio of Latina entrepreneurs are whipping up a slice of heaven in Mesa, Arizona, with the opening of their pink-themed Cielito Rosa Bakery – and the sweet addition to the neighborhood is as much a feast for the eyes as it is for the palate. Secilia Zamudio, Celia Stewart, and Yvonne Allison have transformed a former bakehouse into a vibrant spot across the street from Mesa Community College, infusing a concoction of Mexican heritage and American favorites into every handmade pastry and gourmet coffee they serve, much to the delight of social media enthusiasts.
According to ABC15, guests at Cielito Rosa can indulge in an array of fresh pan dulce, tres leches cakes, macaroons, cookies, and cupcakes, but the offerings are not strictly sugary delicacies, there's richly brewed "gourmet coffees" on the menu as well. Stewart described the bakery's ethos, saying, "Muchísima cultura [...] we're trying to combine both American and Hispanic together to be able to provide a community that we all can come together as one," in a move that's as much about bridging cultures as it is about satisfying sweet tooths in the Valley business scene.
The backstory of the Cielito Rosa Bakery is one of serendipity and shared dreams; the co-owners' bond was forged not in flour and sugar, but in the sweat and determination of a gym, as per Phoenix New Times, Stewart puts it, "This is just an ultimate dream come to life after a year of a conversation and three special friends [who] really didn't know each other, we kind of got to know each other from working out there [at the gym]." Their commitment to creating a welcoming space extends beyond the customers, with Stewart remarking on the delight she finds in seeing different generations congregating in the bakery she and her partners have poured their hearts into.
Despite Zamudio's initial aversion to sweets, Allison's irresistible creations were a game changer, who admitted, "I am a fan of Yvonne's sweets," Zamudio likes them so much and knew they were going to sell, engaging in the craft herself she has found passion in creating handcrafted treats. Allison, a seasoned baker inspired by the disappointment of her own wedding cake, is now serving up weekly changing selections of cupcakes and cookies with flavors like churro and horchata to reflect their Latino pride, not to mention, according to the Phoenix New Times, that they've even invested in a machine capable of producing custom images out of frosting for clients looking for that personalized touch in their orders.
If you're looking to get a taste of Cielito Rosa's baked delights or grab a mirrored selfie reading "Hello Gorgeous" – a charming touch courtesy of the bakery's all-pink interior – head over to 1720 W Southern Ave in Mesa. They're open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., ready to serve their community with a dollop of culture, a dash of love, and a whole lot of flavor.
