In a community-driven push to easily access the natural splendors of Michigan via paddle, Clinton Township has rolled out a new universal kayak and canoe launch at George George Park. As per the details unveiled by FOX 2, the launch is designed for inclusivity, enabling people of all abilities to set off into the Clinton River's serene waters.

The addition is not solely about getting residents to actively paddle the river but also to seamlessly park their cars. According to Public Services Director Mary Bednar, "The universal kayak-canoe launch not only gives area residents access to the Clinton River but also provides extra parking for an extremely popular park in the Township," To ensure the park remains a treasure for the locals while catering to the influx of kayakers, the parking lot has baked in sustainable design techniques. Rest assured, the park is keeping its green promise even as more visitors come to call.

ClickOnDetroit reports that the launch is a keystroke in the overall strategic vision of the Township, aiming to implement a river-trail system that will likely encourage more to dip their toes into outdoor recreation. Alongside the launch, visitors can look forward to a riverside family picnic area and informational resources that chart the river and its many welcome sights.

The price tag for these improvements hovers around $1.3 million, with the George family, original land donors, continuing to financially support park enhancements. "The George family is still involved and has continued to partner with the Township to help us add amenities and make improvements to the park, including the universal launch and parking area," said Bednar. Other financial support has come from various grants, highlighting a community and governmental commitment to enhancing public riverside experiences.

For those keen to join the maiden voyages, the grand opening event took place on June 12, with local officials and excited residents in attendance. Curious kayakers and canoeists can find the new launch positioned conveniently on Moravian Drive, along the calming banks of the Clinton River, as noted in an announcement on the Clinton Township website
