
A tragic accident left a construction worker dead in West Palm Beach on Monday morning, as confirmed by the West Palm Beach Police Department. The worker, while attempting to drive a scissor lift onto a truck near 701 Okeechobe Boulevard, lost his life when the lift toppled over onto him. According to a statement by West Palm Beach Police Department spokesman Mike Jachles obtained by CBS12, the incident occurred at about 9:15 a.m., and despite police officers managing to lift the heavy machinery off the man, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The workplace accident took place on the north side of the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts where the man, who was in his 50s and hailed from Martin County, was due to perform work. Detective reports from West Palm Beach Police Department highlight the scissor lift was vertically positioned as the man wheeled it onto the transport vehicle, when, it tragically fell over. The name of the individual has not been publicly disclosed at the time of reporting. In a separate account by WPBF, public information officer Mike Jachles conveyed, "The first-arriving police officers with some assistance lifted that scissor lift off of the man."
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has confirmed it is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this workplace fatality.
