Kearny Mesa’s Convoy District has witnessed the opening of a new player in the dessert game, Nobibi, a chain known for its visually stunning and Instagram-friendly treats. The new outlet, located in the Convoy Court shopping complex, is nestled among established food joints like Tasty Noodle House, Tofu House, and Crab Hut. Nobibi aims to deliver a unique frozen dessert experience, serving handcrafted treats in a boutique setting with an emphasis on creativity and flavor.
As highlighted on Eater San Diego, the impressive dessert lineup is the brainchild of executive chef Shirley Shinn. Customers can indulge in options like the Dream Cloud, a concoction of ice cream enveloped in cotton candy, rock candy, and Pocky sticks, or a parfait brimming with ice cream, strawberries, crystal boba, and cornflakes with a sprinkle of freeze-dried strawberry "blush."
The beverage menu at Nobibi doesn't lag in innovation, either. Trendy Dalgona drinks with flavors like taro or caramel paste sit alongside fruit-based drinks and an intriguing Biscoff series, which includes Biscoff Dalgona coffee and a Biscoff Milk Frosty. In keeping with the shop's goal to be a space for celebration, its offerings are designed to delight the senses and offer an adventurous experience from the first sip to the last.
A glance through Nobibi confirms that it prides itself on creating "imaginative flavors that taste as tantalizing as they look." Among the standouts are specialty soft-serve ice cream cones like the Ninja, which features activated black charcoal and black sesame, the luxurious D’Or adorned with 24-carat gold, and the S’more topped with popcorn and a toasted marshmallow. Nobibi declares that their mission is simple, "to make sure that everyone can enjoy handcrafted frozen treats made from Fresh fruit and the finest ice cream in a boutique setting."
The Chino Hills-born dessert brand has expanded its footprint with five stores scattered throughout Orange County, and the San Diego location marks its debut in the area. Ambitious plans are on the horizon, as shared by the owners of Eater San Diego, there's talk of a San Marcos outlet by November 2024, another at Westfield UTC, and an expansion into Mexico with branches in Mexico City and Los Cabos. It's clear this dessert shop isn't satisfied with just satisfying local sweet tooths – it's on a mission to take its party of flavors international.
