CPS Energy has stepped forward to assure the community that the power grid is primed to withstand the extreme heat expected this summer. With the heat index already making history earlier this week by reaching 117 degrees, the utility has its work cut out. In preparation, CPS Energy announced its summer readiness efforts, emphasizing function checks on power plants and equipment, cooling system servicing, and reviewing operational procedures for summer peaks, KENS5 reports.
In a presentation to its Board of Trustees, CPS Energy laid out the extensive preparations put in place to meet the Electric Reliability Council of Texas' (ERCOT) required readiness activities. Every angle appears covered, from stocking up on emergency supplies like utility poles and transformers to enhanced prioritization systems for outages. These initiatives are just a fraction of the utility's response plan, designed to maintain steadiness amidst the sweltering summer strain, CPS Energy's Newsroom elaborates.
Ahead of the critical season, CPS Energy has also engaged in maintenance for all generation units, specifically tailoring approaches for the recently annexed plants in Corpus Christi and Laredo. Rudy D. Garza, President & CEO of CPS Energy, expressed gratitude for the diligent preparation of both the company's plant teams and field crews, who frequently work in grueling weather conditions to ensure reliable service. “Our teams have worked to ensure our plants are prepared to provide the energy our community expects and relies upon. We especially want to thank our teams that run the plants, our field crews that respond to outages while working safely under tough weather conditions,” Garza stated.
Engagement with customers remains a linchpin of CPS Energy's summer strategy. Apart from their regular notifications, the utility is encouraging customers to sign up for Energy Alerts and to follow CPS Energy on social media platforms for updates. Moreover, they're pushing for customers to take control over their energy consumption by directing them towards resources that facilitate energy and financial savings. CPS Energy believes in empowering customers, urging them to explore the available energy conservation rebates and other beneficial programs. More detailed information about these efforts is available at cpsenergy.com/savings and the utility's social media pages.
