DeKalb County was left grappling with the aftermath of a tragic incident from Friday night, as law enforcement pieced together what they now believe to be a murder-suicide along Candler Road. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, police discovered the first victim near The Exchange at Decatur on Rainbow Drive, dead from multiple gunshot wounds and the incident kicked off just before 7:20 p.m.
As the night unfolded and the narrative took shape, the second man involved fled the scene in a black sedan, only to be found later in a wreck along Candler Road near Embers Drive. He too had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and while police were trying to understand the chaos, the DeKalb County Police believe the initial shooting victim was specifically targeted after a verbal altercation escalated between the two individuals.
Further investigations revealed a desperate and final act by the second man. In a statement obtained by Channel 2 Action News, authorities shared that after fatally shooting the first man, the perpetrator drove off, eventually crashing his vehicle on Candler Road and ending his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The community awaits the identification of the two deceased, as police have not yet notified their families. This double tragedy adds to a series of violent acts in the metro area, reminding residents that personal disputes can quickly escalate into irreversible violence, leaving only questions and mourning for those affected.
