Heads up, Chester County commuters—road closure alert. Starting mid-June, expect delays and some rerouting if your travels take you through Easttown and Tredyffrin townships. PECO Energy has received the green light from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) for utility upgrades, notably the installation of a gas main, which will see sections of Conestoga Road closed on weekdays for a good part of the year.
According to PennDOT's announcement, the affected stretch is from Devon State Road to Cassatt Road, with closures scheduled to start on June 17 and run through to the end of December, during the hours of 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM, this means local traffic, may find the weekday drive a more congested affair, so adjusting departure times could be a smart move.
For those living in or frequenting the area, rest assured that local access will be preserved throughout the construction phase. However, those commuting through are advised to follow alternative routes via Devon State Road, Valley Forge Road, Route 252 (Swedesford Road), and Cassatt Road to bypass the works zone. And while backups and snarls in the traffic flow are anticipated, proper signage and directions will be provided to aid travelers navigating through or around the area.
The work is classified as necessary for the ongoing maintenance and improvement of local infrastructure, and although the construction schedule spans several months, it is important to note that all activities are contingent on favorable weather conditions. PECO Energy is undertaking this project under a specific PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit with the intention to enhance service and safety for community residents, efforts that, while inconvenient now, aim to serve the greater good in the long term.
