As summer temperatures rise, so does the number of travelers at Lihue International Airport (LIH), with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) cautioning flyers to expect longer wait times. TSA is bracing for “record-breaking numbers” this summer, advising globetrotters to arrive at least two hours ahead of their flight. In normal conditions, TSA aims to keep screening under 30 minutes for standard lanes and under 10 for PreCheck passengers, but these times are predicted to surge, particularly during peak periods from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday through Sunday marks the busiest stretch, according to Hawaii News Now.
Further information obtained by KHON2 suggests that there's been up to a five percent increase in travel volumes compared to last year, straining resources and extending wait times. In a bid to reduce the choke points and swiftly move through mandatory screening, TSA encourages passengers to pack smart and check the latest travel guidelines, including those related to children's documentation and the astutely packed carry-on.
Travelers are urged to be ready for any scenario. "In the security checkpoint, have your photo identification and boarding pass readily available" TSA suggests, as this practice could prevent delays for oneself and others queued behind. Optimizing the security process is paramount during these periods of heightened travel activity. To further assist passengers, the TSA also recommends proactively seeking help if there's uncertainty about what can be brought through security.
