A tragic hit-and-run incident in Gilroy resulted in the death of an unidentified male pedestrian on May 31. The Gilroy Police Department informed the public that officers responded to a call at around 10:50 P.M. regarding a vehicle-pedestrian collision near First Street and Eigleberry Street. Upon arrival, authorities discovered the man critically injured and unresponsive.
The victim received immediate attention from emergency personnel but, despite life-saving attempts by the Gilroy Fire Department, he was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. The hit-and-run suspect, who took off before police could get to the scene, manned a dark sedan and was last spotted heading west on First Street, reported the Gilroy Police. The involved vehicle is suspected to have sustained significant damage following the incident.
Investigators from the Gilroy Police Department's Major Accident Investigations Team (M.A.I.T.) are actively pursuing leads to uncover the suspect's identity behind the wheel. Sergeant Michael McMahon is leading the inquiry, urging the community to come forth with any information or video evidence that could aid the case.
