A 50-year-old man from Cumberland Gap, Tennessee, was collared on charges of sexual misconduct following an investigation led by the Kentucky State Police (KSP). Officials named the suspect as Craig Callen, a former Middlesboro teacher, who now faces multiple sex crime charges.
KSP initiated their probe into the troubling allegations on a Wednesday morning, and their work quickly to zeroed in on Callan. "After detectives interviewed individuals and investigated, a warrant was issued for Craig Callen," Trooper Shane Jacobs released in a statement obtained by WATE. For his alleged misdeeds Callen was taken into custody by the Claiborne County Sheriff's Office in Tennessee and is now cooling his heels in the Claiborne County Detention Center, awaiting a trip back across the border to face justice in Bell County, Kentucky.
Callen's rap sheet out of Kentucky includes third-degree rape, third-degree sodomy, first-degree sexual abuse, and the heinous charge of procuring use of a minor by electronic means, disclosing a glimpse into the gravity of his purported crimes. Details on the specific circumstances surrounding these charges remain closely held as KSP Detective Kevin Howard continues the investigation, according to a report by WVLT.
Once extradited to Bell County, Callen will be formally charged. Meanwhile, the community reels from the implications of the shocking allegations against a man once entrusted to educate their young. The Claiborne County Sheriff's Office acted effectively to detain Callen, reflecting the often unseen but critical cross-state cooperation that helps to enforce the law irrespective of geographical boundaries. "He was awaiting extradition to Bell County, in Kentucky," noted a source from WBIR, underscoring the collaborative law enforcement efforts in this case.
