A former Spalding County sheriff's detention deputy is behind bars after being accused of sexually assaulting an inmate. Quentin M. Morgan, 22, was taken into custody following an inmate's allegations that Morgan entered his cell and assaulted him. In response to the serious charges, the Spalding County Sheriff's Office launched a swift investigation, which included interviews and reviewing surveillance footage, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.
Morgan reportedly waived his Miranda rights for an interview with investigators and allegedly confessed to the crime. Following his confession, he was fired from his position with the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office, arrested and charged with violation of oath of office, sexual assault, and sodomy. He is currently held in the Spalding County Jail without bond. "When speaking with the judge, we requested that Morgan be denied bond. He broke the law; he will be held accountable and face the consequences," Sheriff Darrell Dix said in a statement obtained byFOX 5 Atlanta.
Disturbing details arose as a mother from Guntersville, Alabama, identified as the inmate’s mother, shared withFOX 5 the emotional toll the incident has taken on her family. "I mean, I’m just in shock. When my son calls me, I can’t talk to him for five minutes, you know, less than five minutes about the situation and he starts crying. I put down the phone and I start crying. So, it’s been a week, that’s probably why my eyes are half closed, is because a week of crying," she told the news outlet.
The incident raises concerns over Morgan's past employment as just a month earlier, he was terminated from his position at the Coweta County Sheriff's Office. "Quentin Morgan was terminated by the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office on March 11, 2024, after failing to meet Coweta County Sheriff’s Office performance standards during his 12-month working test period. There were no allegations of sexual misconduct by Mr. Morgan while working in the Coweta County Detention Center," the Coweta County Sheriff's Office released in a statement acquired byFOX 5 Atlanta. Despite his firing from Coweta County in March, Morgan was hired by the Spalding County Sheriff's Office the following month.
