As the City of Fort Worth gears up for the Juneteenth holiday on June 19th, a time to honor the end of slavery in the United States, it's essential to know how this event will affect local services and operations. Fort Worth residents can expect most city offices, including City Hall, to be shuttered in observance, according to the City of Fort Worth. Emergency services, however, will remain open, ready to serve the community in case of need.
For those worried about disruptions to their routine waste disposal, rest easy. The city has confirmed that there will be no change in residential collections for garbage, recycling, and the like on the holiday. Yet, facilities like the City's Drop-Off Stations and the Environmental Collection Center will take a break from their duties. If any issues arise, or you find yourself needing assistance, you can reach out at 817-392-1234 - just don't expect to drop off your old TV or batteries for recycling on the big day.
The Fort Worth Animal Shelter's South and North Campuses won't be welcoming visitors on Juneteenth. However, if you're looking to adopt a furry companion, don't fret—PetSmart adoption locations at Alliance and Hulen remain open, beckoning prospective pet parents from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Recreational opportunities are a mixed bag during the holiday. On one hand, all community centers, Haws Athletic Center, Fort Worth @6, and Log Cabin Village will shut down, but golf courses, tennis centers, swimming pools, and the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge welcome everyone looking to enjoy the outdoors. The Water Department's automated system and 24-hour call center at 817-392-4477 remain at your disposal for payments, account inquiries or to report an emergency.
Trinity Metro is switching up schedules for Juneteenth; while buses and ACCESS paratransit services follow Sunday schedules, TEXRail, Trinity Railway Express (TRE), and ZIPZONE rideshare services maintain their typical rhythmic ballet of transportation. TRE Link and the CentrePort Circulator chug along on regular schedules whilst the Customer Care Kiosk closes its windows. But, should confusion reign, customer service via phone is still an option from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 817-215-8600.
