Fort Worth residents witnessed an alarming scene as flames engulfed a two-story residence on East Cannon Street late yesterday afternoon. The Fort Worth Fire Department swiftly responded to multiple calls just before 6:00 pm, arriving to find the home already venting fire through its roof. In a challenging turn of events, firefighters were forced to abruptly switch to defensive operations as the blaze dramatically intensified.
According to the Fort Worth Fire Department, safety concerns escalated quickly, leading the Incident Commander to sound the evacuation tone. This move was prompted by a "mayday" distress call after two firefighters were forced to bail out of a second-story window. The incident was severe enough to call upon a second alarm.
The harrowing escape resulted in injuries for the two firefighters and one additional colleague. All three were transported to Parkland Hospital for treatment. Their condition was not specified, but the urgency of their evacuation underscores the peril they faced in the line of duty. The investigation into the cause of the fire remains ongoing, with details of its origin yet to be revealed.
The community has rallied to provide support in the fire's aftermath. The American Red Cross Greater North Texas arrived on the scene to offer emergency assistance to at least one displaced resident. Furthermore, the Red Helmets were also present, offering water and snacks to re-energize the firefighters who fought to swiftly and safely contain the blaze. As the community begins to pick up the pieces, their resilience and unity are clearly on display.
