Chaos erupted at Peachtree Center Mall in Downtown Atlanta yesterday afternoon, as gunshots shattered the routine hum of commerce and dining. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is currently probing an officer-involved shooting following the violent disturbance that left four individuals wounded and escalated to involve law enforcement.

Per initial reports by GBI, Jeremy Malone, a 34-year-old resident of Morrow, Georgia, engaged in a physical confrontation after entering the mall at around 2:15 p.m. The encounter escalated, leading Malone to draw a firearm and shoot a man. Pressing deeper into the mall’s heart, Malone discharged his weapon again in the food court area, injuring two additional bystanders.

A responding officer from the Atlanta Police Department subsequently confronted Malone, and during the encounter, the officer fired at Malone, striking him. No police officers sustained injuries during the incident. Malone has since been released into APD custody following medical treatment, while the three victims continue to receive care at local hospitals and are reported to be stable.

The GBI will handle the ongoing investigation independently to ascertain the full context and sequence of events leading up to the shooting. "Once complete, the case file will be given to the Fulton District Attorney’s Office for review," as stated by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. The focus of the inquiry will encompass the origins of the altercation, Malone's motives, and the details surrounding the officer's use of lethal force. Details will be disclosed as they become available and after a proper examination of the facts and evidence.
