The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has issued arrest warrants for 14-year-old Kortezz Thomas of Sylvester, Georgia, following the death of 16-year-old Ke’aisa Young, as stated in a GBI press release. As of now, Thomas has not been apprehended, with GBI agents actively searching for him.
The investigation began after the Sylvester Police Department received a call to the 200 block of Shipp Lane around 11:15 p.m. on June 15, 2024, where officers discovered Young with a gunshot wound, as reported by the GBI. Ke’aisa Young was visiting friends when the tragic incident unfolded, and despite the quick response, her injuries proved fatal.
Young's remains were transferred to the GBI Crime Lab, where an autopsy is expected to be carried out. The public has been urged to come forward with any information that could assist in the investigation, with the GBI Regional Investigative Office in Sylvester and the Sylvester Police Department serving as contact points; anonymous tips can be submitted through various channels including a hotline, the GBI website, and a dedicated mobile application.
The findings of the GBI's investigation will eventually be transferred to the Tift Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office to determine the necessary legal actions to prosecute. The investigation continues as community members grapple with the stark reality of youth violence, knowing any piece of information might be the key to bringing closure to the tragic affair.
